SUNDANCE SQUARE DOES IT AGAIN…ESPN CHOOSES
ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION AS TV HEADQUARTERS
FOR NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP COVERAGE

FORT WORTH, Texas (August 20, 2013) – Sundance Square announced today it has been chosen to be the backdrop to ESPN’s national coverage of the NCAA Men’s Final Four 2014. ESPN is expected to draw thousands of people to the 35-block entertainment destination in Fort Worth, Texas during their telecasts for the event.

“ESPN was a great partner during Super Bowl XLV and we are beyond excited to have them back in Sundance Square in 2014,” said Johnny Campbell, president and CEO of Sundance Square. “ESPN brings great visibility to Fort Worth and allows us to showcase our heritage, as well as our current offerings in Sundance Square including the new plaza which will open in November 2013.”

Sundance Square will be the TV headquarters for ESPN’s NCAA Final Four studio coverage in April 2014. ESPN will construct a set in the new Sundance Square Plaza beginning March 31, 2014 with live telecasts set for April 2 – 7, 2014.

“Sundance Square has proven itself to be a welcoming location for our set and our crew,” said Lee Fitting, ESPN senior coordinating producer. “The fan turnout and engagement will make for an energetic and enthusiastic few days especially with the new plaza as our backdrop.”

Sundance Square was the site of ESPN’s live coverage during Super Bowl XLV in 2011. More than 110 hours of live television and radio coverage were telecast from Sundance Square. Even with an unusual winter storm the week leading up to the Super Bowl, Sundance Square broke sales records. Retail and restaurant sales exceeded previous best day reports in the 35-block development’s history. Pedestrian traffic the weekend prior to the Super Bowl was double a normal weekend and during the week, pedestrian counts more than tripled normal weekly counts.

“We are thrilled to be working with the ESPN team again,” said Tracy Gilmour, director of marketing for Sundance Square. “Their professionalism and enthusiasm creates a unique and memorable experience for all Sundance Square visitors and we look forward to another successful partnership together.”

Sundance Square has continued to grow as the multi-use development is adding two new office buildings, retail space, restaurants, and a one-acre plaza. Scheduled for completion in November 2013, the Sundance Square Plaza will be the centerpiece of the development featuring outdoor patios, fountains, benches, a multi-purpose stage, a 2,000-square-foot pavilion, and four massive umbrellas that create a unique architectural detail while also providing shade and protection from the elements.

Known as a pedestrian friendly district, Sundance Square  will continue to enhance the visitor experience by integrating a paving system in brick with stone bandings, bicycle racks, seating, and landscaping. New restaurants, Del Frisco’s Grille, Bird Café, and Taco Diner will feature outdoor patios opening onto to the plaza.
